From mountains to seas, we have a trip from Sapa, Mai Chau to Halong Bay, Ninh Binh. We travel back in time to see isolated hill tribe communities that are surrounded by verdant rolling hills and mountain streams and are watched over by striking limestone karsts. Halong Bay serves as the magnificent climax of the North tour. On a cozy junk boat, we’ll spend the night visiting islands, enjoying delectable meals, swimming, tanning, and kayaking. The tour marks a perfect showcase of the visual and cultural delights of Northern Vietnam!
Itinerary
Day 1: Hanoi Half-day City Tour
Morning/ Afternoon: The tour starts with a visit to the Temple of Literature, the first university in Vietnam that has a long history of more than 1000 years, is built in 1070 to honor Confucius. Head to One Pillar Pagoda – the must-see attraction in Hanoi that has one of the most unique architectures in Vietnam, like the national flower – the Lotus. Then continue your trip to the Mausoleum of President Ho Chi Minh, an important place that protects the body of the great leader Ho Chi Minh. Visit West Lake and Tran Quoc Buddhist Pagoda, which is regarded as the most ancient pagoda in Hanoi with a history line of more than 1,500 years. Have a lunch meal at an authentic Vietnamese Restaurant.
-Free time at leisure for the rest of the day. However, you can join some optional night tours in Hanoi to know more about the culture of people here,Hanoi Cyclo and Water Puppet Show With Dinner: Have a glimpse of the well-known traditional puppet show in Hanoi by getting on a cyclo and watching the water puppet show with dinner at the end of the tour.
-Hanoi Street Food Walking Tour: Try various tasty local dishes in Hanoi such as Pho (Vietnamese Beef Noodles), Nem Chua Ran (Fried Fermented Pork Roll),… with guidance from our guide.
NOTE:
-The morning tour starts at 08:00 while the evening one start at 13:30, and guests can choose to travel by car or motorbike.
Day 2: Hanoi – Mai Chau – Road Transfer
Morning: After having breakfast at the hotel, get on the van for the drive to Mai Chau. Because the distance from Hanoi to Mai Chau is not long (about 140 km), you will have a short break along the way, then arrive in Mai Chau around midday. Upon arrival, traditional Vietnamese lunch will be served in the village (the vegetarian option is available if you are a vegan).
Afternoon: Join a bicycle tour with the local tour guide to witness the countryside life of Northern Vietnam. You will see the farmers working in the fields and local people weaving scarves. After that, you can wander around the surrounding peaceful villages and go shopping, buying some small souvenirs to bring home.Savor your dinner cooked in the native Thai style with local wine “Ruou Can” while enjoying the traditional dance show of Thai people.The dinner experience only applies to guests traveling in large groups.
Day 3: Mai Chau – Hanoi
Morning: Enjoy your breakfast before getting on your bicycle and riding 2 km to more remote villages of Mai Chau, such as Na Meo and Na Mo villages, to admire the terraced fields and learn more about their traditional culture and customs. Around midday, back to the homestay for lunch and check out. Then you will have time for shopping and relaxing.
-Arriving in Hanoi Old Quarter, you will be dropped off at your hotel. Have an overnight stay in Hanoi.
Day 4: Hanoi – Ninh Binh – Hoa Lu & Tam Coc – Night Train To Lao Cai
Morning 07:30: Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel and get picked up for the transfer to Ninh Binh. Have a short break along the way, enjoying the fresh air in the middle of the giant rice fields. Arrive in Tam Coc, called the “Halong Bay on land”. You will get on the small boat rowed by a local along the Ngo Dong River for about 2 hours to admire the breathtaking scenery of this jewel of Vietnam.Explore many limestone mountains, rice fields, and temples along the way. Moreover, you can see the golden rice carpet along the river banks if you travel during the harvest season. Get back to the mainland for lunch in a local restaurant.
Afternoon: Following lunch and break, join optional activities such as fishing, visiting local people, etc.
13:30: Hop on a bicycle, go around the beautiful villages, and enjoy the fresh air in the rural area. Travel to Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, the ancient capital city of Vietnam one thousand years ago, and learn more about Vietnamese history, which is fascinating and worth knowing.
-Get back to Hanoi, and wait for the pick up for the transfer to Hanoi train station.
Night: Around 20:00, you meet the tour guide at the hotel. You will be transferred to the Hanoi Train Station. Have an overnight train to Lao Cai train station like a local.
NOTE:
-The train departs around 21:15 and is a shared sleeping compartment (2 lower & 2 upper berths per compartment).Our tour guide will not accompany you during the train trip. The train schedule is subject to change. Private compartments on request at a surcharge.Train journeys are part of a great local experience. Cabins are shared with other local passengers (unless a private cabin is requested and all berths paid for – with supplement). Restrooms at either end of the carriages complete the local experience.
Day 5: Lao Cai – Road Transfer To Sapa – Y Linh Ho – Lao Chai – Ta Van
Morning: 05h30 – 06h00, arrive at Lao Cai train station.The bus driver will pick you up from the train station to Sapa (The transfer is around 1 hour). Please be noted that early check-in is possible with an extra fee.
-After the check-in, relax to get ready for a full-day tour. At around 09:30, meet the local guide and trek to Y Linh Ho village, which is settled down by the Muong Hoa River. From here, you travel to Lao Chai village, which is home to Black H’mong.
Afternoon: After Lao Chai village, head to Ta Van village, which is 1200 meters above sea level, and see their unique culture and traditional clothes. Return to Sapa and free at leisure for the rest of the day. Overnight at your hotel in Sapa.
Day 6: Cat Cat – Sin Chai – Sapa – Hanoi – Road transfer
Morning: Enjoy your last breakfast in Sapa and check out. Then take a trekking journey to Cat Cat village of Black H’mong. Relax to enjoy the tour wandering around the village and admiring the poetic beauty of this ethnic village. Picnic lunch will be served by the side of the river.
Afternoon: Continue to trek to Sin Chai village, the village is located at the foot of Fansipan Mountain – “the Roof of Indochina”. Come back to the main road to be transferred to Sapa town.
15h00 – 15h30: The driver comes to pick you up at the hotel for transfer back to Hanoi. Overnight at the hotel in Hanoi.
Day 7: Hanoi – Halong Bay – Overnight on cruise
Morning: Get up and have your breakfast. The driver will pick you up from 08:00 to 08:30 to transfer you to Halong Bay, which is one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Upon arrival, do the check-in procedures before getting on the cruise.
Afternoon: Join some activities, such as visiting the caves, kayaking, or just swimming in the sea, based on the itinerary of each Halong Bay cruise. Get on the boat to relax after the expedition and enjoy your delicious dinner on the cruise. Our tour guide will not accompany you aboard the cruise in Halong Bay. Resident English-speaking guide on board available.
Day 8: Halong Bay – Hanoi
Morning: Get up early and join a Tai Chi lesson or just relax on the sundeck and witness the amazing sunrise on the bay. After breakfast, you will begin your last excursion to one of the famous attractions in Halong Bay.Brunch will be served on the way back to the main dock. You will be transferred back to Hanoi after the cruise trip.
Afternoon: Have free time to explore Hanoi Old Quarter and try Vietnamese street food by yourself. You can consider joining some extra food tours below:
